DescriptionValve covers, dam covers. Design patented by Dr. Leonard Kurz , thoracic surgeon, and Robert Bidwell. Redesigned in 1978 for Deknatel (Division of Howmedica, Inc.) by Irvin Rubin for injection molding by RLR Industries, and easy correct assembly." Two molds built for RLR by Emidio Maria de Silva in Marinha Grande, Portugal." The unit was sealed airtight with an extruded silk screen plastic sheet, extruded by RLR. Parts were molded in CYRO [industries] XT-375, a rubber modified styrene-acrylonitrile, on two 425-ton machines. ?We supplied the molded parts and they had about twenty-five people silk screening, fabricating, and testing the finished parts." Assembly was by Gotham Plastics Company (Bronx, NY)" Eventually Deknatel went into production itself, in cooperation with RLR Industries. Kurz eventually sold Howmedica, Inc. to Pfizer and the production operation moved to Massachusetts.
