| Description | Business machine key caps attached to runner as they were when removed from mold. This type of cap is widely used on typewriters, computers, and all kinds of other office machines. Two-color key caps were first produced during the Second World War by the double-shot injection molding process. With that process the first molded part was removed from a mold and placed into a second mold where the other color of material was molded into, or onto, the first part. Between the mid-1960s and mid-1970s key caps were automatically produced in a special multi-material injection molding machine equipped to mold both colors of plastic material. Today this multi-material injection molding process is used to produce all mid-to-large-volume, good quality key caps." In the early days good quality key caps were produced using cellulose acetate. Today good quality key caps are molded using ABS or polyester. |
